Newly Diagnosed

You're shocked.  You're worried.
Now What?!

The diagnosis of any cancer is frightening.  The number of decisions that you face during this emotional time can seem overwhelming.

This page shares some insights about what you want to know from women who have stood just where you are now.

Try to keep a positive attitude. Cancer is not an automatic death sentence.

Lean on someone.  This trip is better traveled with someone who can listen, share & help.

Make a list of your questions. You will have lots of them.  But if your experience is like ours, you won't remember them all.  So make a list & take it to your doctor's visits.

Do research.  This website was designed by women based on the questions that they needed to answer.  It also provides you links to some great resources.

Ask your doctor to include a Gynecologic Oncologist as part of your medical team.

Ovarian cancer is the leading gynecologic cancer, but it is rarely seen by most physicians.  You and your doctor will probably discuss a surgical procedure to confirm initial suspicions of cancer.

Gynecologic oncologists are surgeons who specialize in diseases of the reproductive system.  They provide added expertise and skills for your care.   And studies have shown women with a 'gyn onc' on their team do better than women who don't.
